As Elera set the food on the table, she gave me a sultry smile and leaned in close. “So, how have you been holding up?” she asked, her voice low and husky.
I raised an eyebrow, feeling a little taken aback by her forwardness. “I’ve been okay,” I said, trying to keep my tone even. “It’s been a pretty stressful few days, but I’m just trying to take things one step at a time.”
Elera nodded, but she didn’t seem deterred by my response. “Well, I’m here to help you relax,” she said, reaching out to touch my hand. “You know, you’re looking pretty good today.”
I smiled, feeling a little flattered despite myself. “Thanks,” I said. “You look great too. And this food smells amazing.”
Elera grinned, obviously pleased with the compliment. “I cooked it myself,” she said. “I wanted to do something nice for you.”
