I walk next to her but not straight on.

I don't want people to misunderstand my relationship with Ms. Hawthorne. She's my student and my friend's son's girlfriend. It'll stay that way, so I don't give a damn about people's guesses. I keep my distance, not wanting any rumors to start.

I could get fired.

"Hey, Via," Justin shouts, and his friends leave. Via ignores him and keeps walking, her steps quickening slightly.

He actually did stuff with another girl and has the guts to call Via baby? What a loser.

"Hi, Justin," she says, looking up from her phone this time, a faint frown forming on her face.

"Oh, hey," she says, nodding, and heads into her physiology teacher's class, her expression indifferent.

She totally ignored him. She didn't pay any attention to him, and I can't help but smile at that.

Good for her.
