Chapter 12
The happiness that Maxine had had over the past four days thanks to her time spent with Heather and Stanley came at a cost. And whether you want to accept it or not, Heather was the person who was most negatively impacted by this circumstance. Once she went into the bedroom, Maxine followed her. She came across her as she was sobbing uncontrollably in her bed. She prayed that Heather wouldn’t be angry with her or her father for making up stories about who Heather’s real mother was.
Maxine went over to her as she was lying in bed and addressed her in a soft voice. “I’m very sorry, sweetie. Please forgive your mother, Maxine, even though she lied to you.” Heather stood up and faced her opponent after turning her back on her. She noticed that the tears had made her eyes crimson. Over time, Maxine developed compassion for her, as she did not deserve any of this mistreatment. She had only just become a child.
