Chapter 44
Chloe’s POV
Someone knew.
Someone knew where I was. Someone knew my secrets.
I slowly set the phone down on the bed, as if touching it again might make the voice come back. My palms were sweaty. My stomach churned, sharp and sour. I rushed to the bathroom and threw up again. Nothing came out except bile and pain.
I leaned against the sink, shaking.
“This is not real,” I whispered to myself. “This is not happening.”
But it was.
I rinsed my mouth and looked at my reflection. My face looked thinner. My eyes were sunken and red. I barely recognized myself. I looked like someone who had been crying for too long and hoping for something that would never return.
I walked back into the bedroom and locked the door even though I knew it did nothing. The guards were outside. The cameras were everywhere. Still, I felt exposed.
I crawled into bed and pulled the blanket over my head.
I tried calling Drake again.
