Chloe’s POV
I still had to resume to the office. I won't give them the benefit of the doubt. If I don't show up at the office, they will think I was truly guilty. They would think I was ashamed and embarrassed.
I can't let them do this to me. I am innocent.
I went straight back to the office.
My body was tired, my head heavy, but my steps were steady. I refused to crawl into hiding. I refused to give anyone the satisfaction of saying I ran because I was guilty. I had nothing to be ashamed of.
The moment I stepped into the building, I felt it.
The looks were no longer curious. They were sharp. Open. Some people pretended not to see me. Others stared too long. Phones went quiet when I passed. Conversations ended abruptly.
I kept walking.
Each step felt like a statement. I am here. I am not afraid. I did nothing wrong.
