Chloe’s POV

I stiffened completely.

His words hit me harder than his touch. Not because of the desire in them, but because of the timing. Everything was on fire around us and all he could reach for was my body, like it was the only thing he knew how to control.

I pushed against his chest firmly this time, creating real distance between us. My voice came out sharper than I intended.

“Stop.”

He paused, surprised, his breathing uneven. The room felt tense, charged, uncomfortable.

“This is not the time,” I continued. “My life is falling apart. Your wife is framing me. Your son wants me destroyed. And you think sex will fix it?”

He ran a hand through his hair, frustration written all over his face. “I’m trying to hold myself together.”

“And I’m trying not to break,” I shot back.
