Chapter 46. Leaving the Mansion

As Madison opened her eyes, she was in a lot of discomfort. Her eyes were puffy, and her head was throbbing uncontrollably. When she found out from Dexter that the liquid she drank the previous night contained alcohol, the astringency of the beverage made perfect sense to her. She pushed herself up to the point where she could sit with her back against the headboard. As soon as she was able to think straight again, she had the epiphany that she couldn’t thank Dexter enough for coming to get her without question. But, just thinking about what took place the night before caused her shoulders to shake, and she found herself crying.

“Why does it hurt so much to be loved? I just wish I hadn’t figured out how to love,” Madison spoke in a mutter. She wiped the tears that were falling down her cheeks and then sobbed as the tears continued to fall freely.
