Chapter 139. Cat's out of the Bag
I headed inside to where he was. Where my mae is. Jacob was muttering a couple of nonsense words, like ordering Henry to run some errands for the council. My annoyance with him earlier quickly dissipated, seeing how silly he looked right now.
“You almost let her touch you, you dimwit.” I pouted, and he suddenly got up and held his head.
“Baby, I didn’t. But I honestly thought it was you. She smelled like you. Although my gut told me not to trust it. I want to push her away, but that would mean touching her so..” he explained as if he were just caught cheating. I suddenly remembered holding Dexter’s hand and instantly felt guilty. I knew it was such a shallow concern because if I didn’t touch his head, I would fall.
I don’t want him to know about that, but I also don't want him to misunderstand the situation. If I hid it from him, it would cause problems, and he would trust me less. That is the last thing I’d want. Not when, in his eyes, I still killed J
