Chapter 59. More Lies

The journal is heavy in my nervous hands, and my heart pounds so hard that everyone in the room can definitely hear it. Well, everyone besides Iris. She leans over to look at the page, her glee at potentially finding us the long-awaited answers like an electric buzz in the air.
“What’s it say?” Koen asks, an anxious tone to his words.
“The blood oath was performed on this eve, December 1998—wait a second.” 1998? That has to be a mistake. That’s before I was born.
Koen moves away from the window in order to slip the journal out of my hands. He frowns at the date, shaking his head. “That’s the wrong date. How can that be? Did she make a mistake?”
