I was too exhausted to go to work, but I owed it to living my life that way every day. I stood up from bed and walked to the mirror to check my forehead out. Luckily, the size of the wound had calmed a bit, and I admittedly felt a lot better.
I wondered how Chad would react to my presence at work or if he would even talk to me. I knew if he kept up with things in that manner, it would only be a matter of time before he sent me packing.
“Hey! So unfair!” I yelled at the television where a young secretary got to kiss her boss in a movie. “Life is a bitch.” I rolled my eyes, putting more butter on my bread.
In no time, I was out and ready to live the life I had been forced to live.

My office was empty, as expected. It was not the kind of empty I had imagined to see, where my books were scattered on the floor, and everything I owned had been taken away from me. Instead, everything seemed to go just fine.
