I sat beside Alessandro in the hospital room, holding his hand and smiling at him. He looked up at me, his eyes warm and loving, I had never thought in a million years that I’d stare at him with lots of remorse and feel my heart ache the way it did whenever I noticed the bruises and wounds on his body.
