As we waited for Alessandro to be transferred to the ICU, I couldn’t help but think about the events that had led us here. The kidnapping, the gunshots, the surgery. It had been a long and terrifying night, but Alessandro was going to be okay.
And as I sat beside him in the ICU, holding his hand and watching him sleep, I knew that I would never let him go. I would never let anyone hurt him again. He was mine, and I would do everything in my power to protect him.
The machines beeped and whirred around us, a steady rhythm that seemed to match the beating of my heart. I felt a sense of peace wash over me, knowing that Alessandro was going to be okay.
I leaned over and kissed his forehead, my lips brushing against his skin. “I love you,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
