Mikhail closed his eyes. “As you all know, the mate bond between a vampire and a human is a rare occurrence. I want to make it clear that it is not something I chose, nor is it something I can control,” he explained. “The bond can only be broken if Cassandra rejects me, or if I reject her. But even then, it will cause us both such great physical and emotional pain that it will affect us for the rest of our lives.”
