That made Jeneva’s serene features contort slightly.

She looked almost displeased, and it was the first time that Mikhail had seen a hint of negative emotion on her face.

She was one of the rare vampires who valued peace and coexistence, so her behavior right now was a bit different from what he was used to.

“Are you telling me that she might be fooling them? For what? To let down their guard?” she asked in a carefully controlled voice.

“I see no good reason why Sye would betray me and the city,” Mikhail said calmly. “Yes, she had her reckless and aggressive moments. However, this place is the only home that she has, not to mention that she despises other vampires. You know that she was human once, right? Unlike the average vampire, she isn’t exactly keen on being with others. Not even humans, of course.”

Jeneva’s eyes widened.

“So, if she indeed betrayed me, what would be her intentions behind such a thing?” Mikhail continued. “How exactly would it bene
