Chapter 39. My Champion

Eating alone in the big, modern kitchen turned out to be boring. Matilda had left enough to feed a small army and although she had given the Alpha King most of it, what was left was still abundant. The eggs were cold but the sausages were warm enough to encourage me to eat more. Nevertheless, my thoughts made it difficult for me to enjoy my new privileges.
His saddened face was eternally stuck on my mind. When I had dared him, I had expected the worst. I had heard so many terrible things about him and had braced myself for the pain that would come with losing my virginity forcefully. Instead, he had relieved me of my duties and let me go without harming a hair on my head. When I saw his face, I almost crumbled to my knees in sincere remorse.
Those amethyst eyes were cloudy with mixed emotions and his lips were thin in regret. If only I had my wolf, I could have easily deciphered what the problem was. I could only guess and I was sure I had contributed to it.
