Chapter 43. Mistress Henrietta

On getting there, I saw no one. Was the Paradise Palace haunted? Was my idle brain beginning to conjure up imaginary things? I was about to agree that I was losing it when I heard the sound again. This time, it was a low groan and it was coming from one of the mistresses' chambers. Beads of sweat dotted my forehead and my palms were clammy.
Against my better judgment, I went from door to door. Mistress Lana's room was silent and Mistress Catherine was not in the palace. She was visiting her mother in another pack. A Do Not Disturb card hung outside Mistress Felicity's door and I tiptoed past it. That left Mistress Henrietta's room which was a bit separated from the others.
