Chapter 40. Selfless Act
VENUS
I leaned against the library door, heaving big breaths in and out. It should have reassured me that at least, I had one mistress in my corner but I was feeling anything but joy. Mistress Felicity had previously informed me that she wanted me to be her spy and though I had agreed formerly, I wasn't so sure anymore.
When I could trust my legs not to wobble, I walked further into the library, its towering shelves standing like wooden giants. I sat behind the large table, my eyes searching the shelves for a familiar title. Persuasion sat at the top of the shelf and I huffed out my frustration. Then I remembered who had put it there.
It was strange that in the two occasions I had met that guard, he had helped me. The first time, I was annoyed by how much we are so unlike. His tastes of books and movies were generally appalling and he behaved too cocky for an ordinary palace guard. However, the second time, he had stood in my defense against an Alpha. Ungratef
