Chapter 76
My head was throbbing. My ears picked up the sounds of voices around me, but my eyes, apart from being blurred, were fixed on the image of Ji-a being placed on the stretcher before being taken to the ambulance.
“P-Please, where are you taking her?”
“To Rowe Hospital. Are you a family member? Do you know her?”
“I-I…” I diverted my eyes to Ji-a, feeling my heart shatter. “I am married to her.”
“You can come in; we’ll take her soon. She’ll be fine.”
I nodded, following into the ambulance. I sat next to Ji-a’s body, and she remained unconscious. The paramedics were providing first aid as the ambulance moved at an unusually high speed. I saw them tear her dress, and my eyes widened when a large cut on almost her entire abdomen bled a little more.
“We need to stop the bleeding. If this continues, she will go into shock.”
They were both working quickly. I remained scared, watching them, but my eyes shifted to her still-small, blood-stained belly.
