Chapter 45
The brown-skinned, clean-cut girl sat on the dining chair, fixing her eyes intently on the novel in front of her. I was stunned. I rubbed my eyes, because I had just woken up from sleep, the body was still unmoving. After taking in her outfit, then I realised that she must be one of Lorenzo's household workers. They have definitely resumed work today.
On noticing my presence as I made way to the dining table to grab an apple from the refrigerator (because the doctor had advised me to take more of fruits), she acknowledged me.
"Hi, good morning," she greeted, standing up from the chair and holding her novel. She seemed eager to leave my presence, maybe because I was frowning.
"Good morning," my voice came out groggy as expected, "how are you doing?"
Her almond eyes blinked, "I'm fine ma," she genuflected, lowering her gaze. She seemed tensed, as she waited for a sign of dismissal or an order to serve. But none was forthcoming.
