Chapter 57. An Intent Question

The sight I met when I got to the courtyard was repulsive enough for me to shut my eyes and walk away, as her skin had turned black, and even from the far distance I stood, a pungent odor oozed from her.
"Is she the one?" I asked Tania whose palm was over her lips, her eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets in shock.
The same kind of shock enveloped me but I willed myself not to make it obvious after all I was the one who decided to come and help her. "What on earth could they have done to her?" I inquired, my voice thick with anger.
"I don't know, but we really have to help her now." She urged me on, and ignoring the odor, I crouched before her and scooped her into my arms.
"Don't worry, we'll get to the root of this." I assured her, watching her lips form a faint smile before she fell into unconsciousness, spurring me to hurry towards the hallway into my room.
