Chapter 16
“Yves, dear?”
Stopping in the middle of the hospital hallway, Yves turned to find their nurse manager waddling her hips as she walked toward him. It was the last day of this week’s shift before his day off, and the click of her heels stirred his stomach with dread.
Miss Rose stopped in front of him and smiled. “Do you have a minute?”
‘Please, don’t make me cover for someone’s shift tomorrow. I want to rest,’ Yves wanted to say, but all he could do was nod. “Is there a problem, Miss Rose?”
“Oh, no. None at all. It’s just about the vacation leave you’re requesting for next month. I told the director about it a day or so ago.”
Yves perked up, but he crushed all hope before expectations could do it for him, keeping his expression neutral. “Ah, yes. He mentioned it to me, too, after Glenn’s cardiac arrest.”
“I’m sorry, Yves.” Miss Rose flashed him an apologetic smile. “If it wasn’t for his son’s sudden cardiac arrest, I’m sure he would have agreed.”
