“You are pregnant.” Jessica could not miss the joy in his voice. She did not know what his reaction would be, but she did not expect what he just did. He was happy that she was pregnant.

“Are you happy?”

“Aren’t you?”

“I am happy. I always wanted to have a child of my own.” It was the truth. She had always wanted to raise her baby in a quiet, peaceful environment, surrounded by loving neighbors. She had never thought of anything extraordinary.

“Why would I not be happy?” he asked when he confirmed she was okay with it.

“Because I did not think you would want a baby.”

“Why would you think that?”

“Well, because you fought tooth and nail with Dawson every time he brought up a child.”
