“Good morning,” Xavier said as he walked into the kitchen and placed his hand on Jessica’s shoulders. She had regained her strength after receiving reassurance from Xavier and the good news from Alicia, and she decided to cook.

“Good morning,” she murmured as she took in his scent. It was obvious he had just taken a shower because she could smell his aftershave, and his cologne was stronger than when he had worn it for a while.

He pressed his lips to her ear and left several kisses. “What are you doing up so early and on your feet?”

“I thought I’d make breakfast for you,” she said. The gesture touched him, but he did not like her standing while she was pregnant.

“You can let the house staff do that—that is what they are here for. They receive a monthly salary, but you don’t let them earn their full pay. Or should I lay them off?” h
