The door to the elevator opened on the twenty-fourth floor. After Xavier had a moment of staring deep into Jessica’s eyes, he let go of her hand, and the rest of the elevator ride was awkward.

Since the VIP ward was quite private and quiet, Xavier could step out of the elevator without worrying about blogs and tabloid reporters. There was no way they would be there.

Jessica followed behind him as he took long strides. He pushed open the door to his grandfather’s ward.

“Just a minute, Mr. Delgado. I am checking his vitals. Can you wait outside?” a nurse said as soon as Xavier stood in the doorway.
