Chapter 29

Marcus wanted to say a whole lot of things, but kept them to himself. His new prayer was that Xavier would mess things up for Jessica so he could have her, and he hoped he would get to meet her again soon.

They finished the rest of the meal in silence. Both men moved to the living room while Jessica helped Angel clear the table. She brought a cup of coffee for each of them so they could sign the contract.

Marcus and Xavier took the time to discuss some of the companyʼs legal issues and how to resolve them. Jessica joined them shortly after. Marcus gave Jessica a copy of the contract and another one to Xavier.

Jessica went straight to the place where she needed to sign, and she asked for a pen.

“Can I have a pen?” she asked, and both men looked at her.
