Chapter 142
Marcus stood at the deserted footpath, waiting patiently, anticipating the usual nocturnal visit from Xavier.
He knew that with Xavier, he was treading on egg shells, yet the man had shown himself to be quite dependable and in control of the situation. Money still flowed in, the public had become less concerned about him, and even though his company was now winding up due to poor management, Xavier had assured him that it was for the best in the mean time.
Marcus had not quite anticipated that his life would turn out the way it did. He had not seen himself as a person who would end up living in the remotest part of the woods in a small shack with a woman tied up in his house.
He wished more than anything that he could speak with Caleb, he longed to see the despair and dejectedness he was probably feeling because of the whole situation. Yet he knew that if he wanted to still have Jane all to himself, he would have to remain obscure.
