Daniel’s POV

The meeting room was quiet after the door clicked shut. The silence felt heavy, a thick blanket over the anger and shock that filled the air. It was just me, Jake, and Ellie Davis.

I stared back, my mind racing, trying to catch up with this new, impossible reality.

“Ellie,” I began, my voice rough. “What are you doing here? And how could you possibly be our new Head of Operations? This is insane.”

She took a step closer, her gaze unwavering. “It’s not insane, Daniel. It’s real. I am here. My papers are all in order. My skills are exactly what this company needs right now. You saw my resume, experience is top notch.”

“I saw a resume from an ‘Elara Vance’,” I countered, pushing away from the table completely. My chair scraped loudly again. “Not from Ellie Davis. Not from the Ellie Davis who disappeared without a trace when things got rough. The one who left me to deal with a mess that almost ended everything.”
