Sienna’s POV
Evan’s angry shouts faded into the distance as his car roared out of the parking lot, leaving behind the smell of burnt rubber and his bitter words.
My heart, which had been a frantic drum against my ribs, slowly started to calm. The fear that had gripped me was easing, but a tremble still ran through my body.
The air felt heavy, like the recent storm hadn’t quite passed.
Then Daniel turned to me. His face, which had been hard and unyielding as he faced Evan, softened, the tight lines around his mouth easing away. His eyes, usually so intense and sharp, now held a deep concern, a quiet tenderness that made my throat tighten.
He looked at me, really looked, checking for any harm. He reached out, his fingers gently touching my arm where Evan’s cruel grip had been.
A faint bruise, already starting to bloom purple and blue, marked the spot.
