Ayleen sat in Ibrahim Khan’s study, her fingers absently tracing the edges of the book she had been trying to read for the past hour. The dim light from the desk lamp cast a warm glow over the room, but her thoughts remained far from comforting. Most of her time was spent here now, burying herself in books, avoiding conversations, and, most importantly, avoiding him.
She couldn’t go to her parents’ house often; it would raise questions she wasn’t ready to answer. Her sister’s wedding was next month, and the last thing she wanted was to ruin their happiness with her own turmoil.
