Chapter 21
Ayleen rubbed her hands together, igniting as much heat as she could. The cold air was flowing past her, but still, it felt serene, better than the suffocation she felt inside the room with Lilly. It was midnight, and she was tired yet couldn’t compromise on taking a nap. Her exams were near.
The past week had been surprisingly peaceful with Mr. Ibrahim away and the devil being busy with the workload, leaving early in the morning. Thankfully, there was no encounter. Only if she knew.
Twirling the pen in her hand, Ayleen focused on her notes and books that were sprawled around but tensed as a shadow fell on it.
‘Oh God, let it not be Martha!’ Ayleen prayed, remembering how strict she was for wandering anywhere in the estate besides work.
With a sigh, she turned around, only to have her pen slip from her fingers.
‘No, I take my dua (prayer) back, let it not be the devil,’ she whispered in her mind, gulping and staring immobilized into his gray-blue eyes,
