I walked out of the infirmary, the dim corridor stretching before me as my thoughts swirled in chaos.

This was not how things were supposed to go. This was not how I was supposed to be dealing with them. And yet here I was. Yet here I was thinking about all the possibilities of all the chaos that I would be dealing with.

“You and me, kid. No matter what happens, I promise I’ll be here. I won’t let anyone hurt you.” Her voice played in my head as she spoke to that child. And no matter how hard I tried to control myself, no matter how many times I tried to distract myself, I couldn’t.
