I paced around my room, thinking of what to do the next morning. I wasn’t able to sleep well, just thinking about the possibility that Roxanne might be in pain. Yesterday, when she appeared before the werewolf council, she looked tattered and worn out.
It made my heart ache that I was the one subjecting her to such pain, but there was little to nothing I could do. That was the law; allies to invading spies were meant to be punished and imprisoned, and doing otherwise was going to raise whispers in the council.
I didn’t doubt her. I believed she had no idea that her fiancé was the son of the Alpha of Darkwood. I could see the surprise on her face yesterday when I revealed the information.
