Chapter 82

Claire's POV

Cain stooped down so that he was at the same level as me. "Stay here and have a nap. I'm going to try to find something to eat and drink. Just call me if you need me; I'll stay in the area." He told me, and then leaned in and gave me a kiss on the face. When he wanted to, my big, crazy brother could be the kindest and most patient person, especially when I needed it the most.

I gave him a lazy smile because I was so calm. "Ok, be careful."

He gave a small nod and then ran off into the distance.

I shut my eyes and tried to fall asleep for a few minutes while he was gone. But just as I was about to close my eyes, I heard sticks snapping and footsteps coming from behind me.

I looked around the tree, but I didn't see anything or hear anything. I kept listening and didn't let my guard down. Another branch broke, and this time the sound was closer. I shakily got off the log and looked around for the person who did it.
