Chapter 42. Self-Preservation

I should have listened to that inner voice that kept telling me that this was wrong.  But hell no. I seem to have come back to my senses the minute I heard that irritating voice. I push back from Kayden and he grabs onto my hand to keep me from moving very far away from him.

I pass him a nasty glare and he ignores me. He knows the situation we are in is bad.

Lexi looks at him and she already has tears in her eyes. I almost laugh when I remember what I saw her not too long ago. She looks at Kayden's hands that are holding onto my elbow then looks at him and her gaze sweeps over till it lands on me.

“Bitch!!!” She screams at me.

She marches forward and raises her hand. She is ready to slap the shit out of me. The shock of it all has me frozen to the spot. I close my eyes as I wait for Lexi to slap me but the strike never comes. I pry one eye open and look to see what is happening.

Kayden’s hand grips Lexi’s tight and he stops her from stri
