Katarina's POV

“How did it happen?”

I gave a glass of water to Aurora, her fingers trembled as she grabbed it and gulped it greedily. Now that she had sorted things out with me, I could feel a little relieved but anxious also.

Nothing made sense. How could Augustus’s writing match the one who was sending her threats? As far as I knew, he had no connection with her or Marcus.

After a little patting, her little one was asleep. After her male was fed, Aurora finally decided to talk this out.

“The day of your birthday, I overheard them.” She said avoiding my gaze. Her hold tightened over the glass as she looked at the ground like she was reliving that day and their conversation was still going on in her head. She seemed distressed. “Xerxes wanted to kill Lucien. I confronted Marcus but he forced me to stay away.”

I frowned. Day of my birthday? When I found out that Xerxes was my mate? So did that mean Marcus was in alliance with Xerxe
