Chapter 20. We Should Be Grateful

Selena’s POV

“Caleb, it’s too much! I don’t need all of this.” I protest, but Caleb is currently ignoring all of my protests. His friends are trying very hard to not laugh outright, but kind of failing.

I look at everything at the counter and always faint when the salesman, who is absolutely glowing with excitement at the prospect of selling all of this in one go, says the total.

“I definitely don’t need all of this. I can’t afford it.” Caleb keeps ignoring my protests and asks the man to bag it all. He does this while Caleb puts a credit card on the machine. I almost screech, but instead, I take a deep breath.

‘Why are you angry at our mate?’ Si asks confusedly, while Skysong is rolling her eyes in my mind’s eye.

‘He is spending unnecessary money on me. I don’t need all this splendor.’ I explain, trying, and failing epically, to not sound annoyed.

‘But he is trying to take care of us. We should be grateful.’ Si counters, and I sigh. She is
