The engine purred beneath us as Ronan drove us out of the city. I had informed him after the call and we drove straight to the countryside. Rain streaked the windshield in silver lines, a perfect mirror of the storm twisting inside my chest. I sat in the passenger seat, staring out at the blurring trees, arms folded, my leg bouncing restlessly.
“I can’t believe he actually went back,” I muttered under my breath, more to myself than Ronan.
Ronan glanced at me sideways. “Who? Callan?”
I nodded. “Yeah. To the countryside. Why the hell would he go back there after everything?”
