Two hours later, we reached the pack gates. As soon as the guards saw our vehicle approaching, the doors creaked open without hesitation. They didn’t question my return, but my gut twisted with a sense that nothing about this trip would be as smooth.

Ronan drove past the familiar pathways quickly. The sun barely shined, casting long shadows over the garden trails. Something in me churned, the kind of disturbing discomfort you feel when a storm is coming.

I sat back in the leather seat, the weight in my chest pressing down hard. That’s when it hit me, I hadn’t even told Ronan the most critical detail of that earlier call.

I turned to him abruptly. “I forgot to mention something,” I said.

He raised an eyebrow, eyes flicking between the road and me. “What?”
