Chapter 18. Second Mate

Xavier didn't reject me; he left my room without speaking. The following morning, I trained with Jennifer, focusing on the basics of magic to help her discern whether I was a wolf or a witch. To our surprise, Jennifer remained clueless about my powers and couldn't sense any aura from me.

Feeling both dejected and irritated, I found myself mated before I discovered my own powers. After an intense session of chanting and magic, I strolled to the courtyard, hungry and drained. The courtyard was bustling with elite witches chatting, lunching on the lawn with picnic blankets, and sharing food with friends. Some were heading to the library. My eyes were searching for Xavier, who had been conspicuously absent from the breakfast table and hadn't accompanied me during my training with Jennifer.
