Chapter 25. Claiming the Mate

Xavier – POV

I turned to find Leia standing in the doorway as I hung up the phone with Kai. Leia looked at me, worried; I knew she had come to check on me. She left, not wanting to crowd me with her presence or give me space. I appreciated it, but I also craved her company while I processed everything.

The situation had worsened since the Queen witch, Veronica, had died on our Pack's land. This meant that the witches would likely blame us for Veronica's death. I only hoped they wouldn't escalate this to war like the Tiger clan did.

I didn't have the luxury of time to grieve. I had to ensure Kai could return to the pack undetected. If the other pack members spotted him, rumors would spread like wildfire. The council officer would then come to the pack to take Kai, and I would end up in legal trouble, which I couldn't afford.

"Vincent!" I called out, spotting him interrogating the maids. I mind-linked him: "Open our pack's secret route to let Kai into the Pack.
