Chapter 26. The Beginning of His Scheme

Marcus’s POV

I walked out of the Alpha’s room and saw Chris, the head guard, standing at the back of the door.

Immediately, he saw me, he stood straight, and adjusted his shirt. I raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing here?” I asked, but he just bowed slightly.

“I was looking for you. Elder Theron asked me to inform you about a meeting happening tomorrow,” he said in a calm voice.

But I could see his tense shoulders. Something fishy was going on here.

“How did you know I was here?” I asked, staring intently at him.

He smiled stiffly. “One of the maids told me she saw you coming to the Alpha’s chamber,” he uttered.

His words did not add up with his body language, yet I decided to act like I did not know he was lying.

So I nodded. “You can go,” I said, then I watched him walk away with his fists clenched.

He was definitely up to something. I needed to keep guard over the Alpha.
