Chapter 10
Draven’s POV
“I— I can’t. I can’t shift!” She stammered frantically, her words tumbling out so fast I barely recognized her voice.
My confusion flickered instantly into alarm. “What do you mean, you can’t?” I wanted to demand, but instinct told me this was no time for questions. The snarling of the wolves racing toward me drowned out everything else.
I swung my head, bloodshot eyes blazing red under the moonlight. In one lightning-quick motion, I lashed out with my claws, burying them deep into the flank of the first wolf. It let out a horrific screech as I ripped flesh and sinew, its body collapsing in a spray of black fur and scarlet blood.
Before the second could close the distance, I lunged, snapping my powerful jaws around its skull. The sound of bone crushing was ghastly—and painfully satisfying—as the creature’s head separated from its body.
