Draven’s POV
Maeve and I walked back to the castle after finishing our training. Once inside, I showered and dressed for that day’s Council meeting. I was going with Galen and Mason, since Seraphine and Marcello hadn’t returned from their trip south—they had left the day before with a witch from Lennox’s pack.
Ever since I learned the truth about Maeve’s identity, I had done my best to avoid any confrontation with her brothers. I had noticed they were holding back too; at least Lennox did his best to keep Luther in check. We still despised each other, but Seraphine had been right: only Maeve would come out hurt if we let things boil over. I couldn’t imagine how she must have felt, torn between a mate who resented her family and a family that hated her mate.
