Chapter 44
Maeve’s POV
Finally, we returned to our territory. Relief washed over me as I sensed tension dissolve around us and heard the collective sigh of our pack. We approached the castle, where warriors and members pressed close, their eyes alight with gratitude at our safe return. Kaleb, Ronan, Nate, and several others rushed forward to embrace Draven.
Aria hurried to me, wrapping me in a fierce hug, while the surrounding warriors and pack members formed a protective circle. Their concern moved me deeply—it was touching to know they’d feared for my safety. Yet I noticed many kept a respectful distance, especially the males, presumably intimidated by Draven, who stood glued to my side.
A sudden, high-pitched scream rang out from the castle doors, drawing every gaze.
“Draven!”
I turned just in time to see Thea burst through the entrance, her eyes fixed on him in disbelief. Her expression struck me as overly rehearsed, as if she’d practiced this moment
