A stab of agony shot through my chest as I absorbed the news and watched Devon’s shoulders shake with grief. I forced myself to breathe. “What happened?” I whispered, voice trembling.
Devon’s reply tumbled out between ragged sobs. “She was chosen—one of the young girls sent to the Gray Wolves Pack.”
