Ember’s POV

I could still smell the mouthwatering aromas of the delicacies that the kitchen staff had been working on all day infiltrating my senses as Becky helped me to prepare for the welcoming ball that would follow the feast.

The feast had been awkward to say the least. Being forced to sit next to Beatrice and endure her barbed comments had been torturous, but watching her force physical contact with Nate at every opportunity nearly broke my composure completely.

It was satisfying to see her be rebuffed on every occasion and the frustration and rage growing with every passing second. Clearly, she had thought that she would be able to physically seduce Nate and the fact that she wasn’t getting what she wanted was a foreign experience to her, and not a pleasant one at that.
