Chapter 48

Nate’s POV

As soon as Ember entered the ballroom I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her. I had been in the middle of a conversation with Josh and one of the Elders about the mentor program that we ran in the schools here but in an instant, that was forgotten.

Clearly, I was not the only one who had that reaction as the buzz of conversation died down to a silence so intense that you could almost hear a pin drop. Even the musicians had ceased playing as they were drawn to the magnificence of my mate.

She was breathtaking and there was something about her tonight that seemed to enchant everyone in her presence.

I watched as Ember and Becky shared a look between them, and Ember’s cheeks flushed wildly at the sudden attention as she made her way down the stairs, nodding and smiling to the people who watched her pass with their mouths hanging open.

My chest swelled with pride as she came to a stop in front of me and slipped her arm gently through mine,
