Chapter 14. A Broken Promise

[June 2010]

“Evan, do you think our friendship is strong?” asked Grace, leaning on Evan’s back while doing her homework.

Calmly and confidently Evan replied, "Definitely strong."

“So no matter what, we won’t ever stop being friends, will we?” said Grace.

Evan put down the book he was reading, then turned quickly to face Grace. His hands were quick enough to hold her body so she wouldn't fall backward. "Why are you suddenly asking this?"

Grace also turned around to face Evan. "This. Homework," she said, pointing at her book using a pen. “It is to write an essay about something you are proud of.”

“And you’re proud of our friendship?” Evan jumped to a conclusion.

Grace nodded. “Of the many people at school, who are best friends, we are the only ones who never get into fights. Well, we've had fights, but those weren’t so great that we didn’t talk with each other, or made a fuss about it," she said. "Hmm, but in the future, would we have a big fi
