Chapter 49. A Little Closer
As soon as they arrived home the previous night, Evan went straight to bed. Grace insisted that he stay in her room and rest, even though he felt bad about being a burden to others. Grace herself was too tired to stay awake, so she fell asleep right when her body met the bed, next to Indah.
When morning came, right after the sun started to shine, Grace woke up to help with breakfast. Indah wanted to cook something more delicious and special than usual for the sake of Evan. Now the two of them were busy making dumplings, containing shredded vegetables and beef.
“Why are you treating Evan differently, Mom?” Grace commented on her mom's demeanor.
Without turning to Grace and kept focusing on wrapping the filling with dumpling skins, Indah replied, “What do you mean by 'differently'?”
“You know, as if he's special.” Grace neatly put all the dumplings into a pan to be steamed.
“That's just what you feel. I treat Anthony the same way.” Indah glanced at Grace
