Shit. From his perspective, he’s right. From mine, I need to ask Marcus about the rumor and the damn memory disk—and maybe even about Jeremiah Dermont.
Nick’s leaving in a few hours. I don’t like him going on a trip when someone is taking shots at the company.
“I know how to reach you if something happens,” I say. “Or if we find out something concrete.”
I manage to stay calm and professional for the rest of the meeting as we go over Nick’s travel plans and the issues I need to handle myself or pass on to Rachel.
When I leave, though, I’ve built up so much worry and fear I’m about to explode.
“What’s wrong?” Rachel asks, but I wave a hand to show this isn’t a good time.
I have a lot to update her on, but it will have to wait. Right now I need to talk to Marcus.
